Inside mount and outside mount are two different ways to fit a blind or shade. The better choice depends on your window depth, trim, privacy needs and design preference.
Inside mount treatments sit within the window opening. They are a great option when you want the frame and trim to remain visible. This style looks crisp in modern interiors and works especially well when windows are deep enough for the product hardware.
The tradeoff is light gaps. Because the treatment must move freely inside the opening, a small gap is normal at the sides. If complete room darkening is important, pair an inside mount shade with side drapery panels or consider an outside mount.
Outside mount treatments attach above or around the window. They can make a window feel taller, hide uneven trim and improve coverage around the edges. They are also useful for shallow windows that cannot hold an inside mount product.
For a polished look, extend the product beyond the glass and mount it high enough to clear the window when raised. This helps maximize daylight while keeping the design balanced.
